August – Summer 2022

Long time no see.

This past year has been one of bountiful growth and valuable lessons, but maybe the real treasure was the friends–– (RoyaltyFreeBeats_Cliche_Record_Scratch.mp3) ANYWAY, we are back. And while those things may all be true, the real topic at hand is: Did you miss us? We know you’ve all definitely noticed the lack of our highly anticipated quarterly Box 8 Newsletter, so we decided to finally give the people what they wanted: an update on our summer so far. We’ve been enjoying Summer Fridays here at Box 8––yes, that does mean we won’t be updating your social graphics at 4:29pm (you know who you are 👀) until further notice. With our extra weekend hours some of us have gone on cruises (must be nice), others have picked up new hobbies (dough making, ice cream spinning), and some of us have simply taken some much needed “Me Time” in the snacks aisle at Trader Joe’s. All of this is to say in our time away from writing these, we’ve been thriving.

Another skill we’ve picked up for the summer is How To Decorate Your Office With 14 Molded Concrete Awards From The CADC (Pretty sure it’s a class on SkillShare hosted by Marie Kondo). We are indescribably proud of our talented team and amazing clients for such a huge win at The 46th Annual CADC Award Show including Best of Show, Judges Choice (two, if that matters 😎), and an array of Gold and Silver. Another class we plan to take this summer is The Art Of The Humble Brag; we’ll report back in the fall.

In other riveting Box 8 news, we’ve decided to buy a TV and transition to digital brand presentations (print is dead). But alas, mounting a 55” screen in our little office turned out to be slightly more difficult (dramatic) than we thought… Please cross your fingers we get an installation guy in here ASAP. Kayla wants her desk back 😔. For now, we might be sticking to books after all (print is not dead). Again, we’ll report back in the fall.

News

Fall Intern
We’re excited to welcome Michael as our Fall Intern! After spending a few years living and teaching in Japan, Michael took a recreational Typography/Lettering class on a whim and fell in love with type design. Even though he did say his last meal on earth would be “you know, something healthy” (RED FLAG 🚩), we’re thankful to have new talent and fresh perspectives join our team.

The Pour For The Cure
Join us this summer at breweries and wineries across Connecticut to raise funds for pediatric brain cancer research. The Cure Starts Now Cancer Research Foundation is one of the only cancer foundations dedicated to the Homerun Cure™ for all cancers, starting with one of the most deadly: pediatric brain cancer. Presented by The Connecticut Chapter of The Cure Starts Now, we’ve recruited breweries and wineries across CT to collectively fundraise $50,000 for pediatric brain cancer research targeting DIPG. Show your support by grabbing a pint at a participating brewery on August 13 & 14, or donating directly to The Cure Starts Now.

Current Projects

Just Started: Teff

We’re excited to be working with Stamford’s beloved Teff, a family-owned Eritrean & Ethiopian restaurant. Since opening, Teff has been proud to serve cuisine honoring the beautiful countries of Eritrea & Ethiopia. Similar to their interior design, our team took inspiration from the beautiful green landscapes of Eritrea and Ethiopia, and their lively, welcoming culture.

Just Finished: Valley Craft Ales

Keep your eyes peeled for our recent work with Valley Craft Ales, a culinary forward brewpub posting up in the Mount Snow Valley in Vermont. By juxtaposing retro hiking/camping trail signs and the ever so iconic “Vermont aesthetic” with modern design sensibilities, we created a playful, yet minimal visual system that brings a fresh new perspective to the craft beer scene. This trail always leads to one thing: second rounds.

Just Launched: Alvarium Roasting Co.

Known by all for their beers and soon to be known for their beans, Alvarium recently opened their new roastery. We may be biased, but their branding system is pretty sweet. Set on expanding the narrative of Alvarium’s beehive, our team created a bear mascot with only one thing on his mind: raiding for honey––dare we say inspired by our caffeine addiction… Stop by for a cold brew and snag a(n excellently designed) bag of beans on the way out.

Until next time.

So yes, this past year we’ve been busy: working, learning––and Slack-ing 💻. Often distracted by #general, we sometimes find ourselves in a (heated) discussion, usually not work related… Sometimes it’s figuring out (accusing) who left dishes in the sink, or sometimes it’s a little more innocent like PLEASE CC STEPHANIE ON ALL EMAILS OR ELSE 🤜🏼🤚🏼. But most recently, we’ve been trying to settle the age-old question of Are jeans pants?👖🤔. We thought it’d be great to start enlisting your help to settle some of our open-ended debates. Find us on Instagram (@box8creative) and weigh in. We know some of you die-hard denim fans and pleated purists have a lot to say.
