Provisions On State is New Haven’s only whole-animal butcher shop. More than that, it is the brainchild of owners Chef Emily Mingrone and Barman Shane McGowan, who—as they do at Tavern on State—take a community-minded approach to presenting high-quality, locally sourced ingredients simply and exceptionally.
With the goal to revitalize an “old-school” way of shopping, cooking, and eating, Provisions on State’s visual identity draws on several traditional design elements found throughout the small, quintessential butcher shops that fed close-knit neighborhoods back in the day: from the classic color palette to the spur serif typeface that exude a ”vintage made modern” feel. This, paired with a playful dose of humor from the hand-drawn animals running for their lives, creates a boldly adventurous brand.
